indian judiciary and crimes against women

The unfortunate reality is that the Indian Judiciary has failed miserably to address the growing atrocities against women. Statistics indicate that the conviction rate in rape cases is a lowly 4%. The Supreme Court in a judgment delivered in 2011 in a gang rape case while setting aside the conviction of 5 accused awarded a token compensation of Rs.50000/- to be paid to the victim! This judgment has not been overruled till date.
The mindset of the Judiciary and the Police is still archaic and a large section of judges and police officers believe that the victim must have been a woman of easy virtue and must have taken the initiative!
Our procedural laws like the IPC,The Evidence Act and the CrPC were enacted during British rule and are absolutely out of sync with the present times. The prosecution has to prove beyond reasonable doubt that an offence was committed remains the basis of our criminal jurisprudence. There are a thousand loopholes which can be easily exploited by a clever lawyer to acquit his client. Even the entire investigation is done by a male police officer who at times is insensitive to the plight of the victim. The problem is compounded a thousand fold if the victim belongs to the SC&ST community!
The time has come for the Judiciary to give up its feudal attitude towards women and come to terms with the 21st century!

margaret thatcher-the iron lady

Our heartfelt condolences to the British people on the demise of Dame Margaret Thatcher!
A grocer's daughter, she rose to become one of the most influential personalities in the world. After Churchill no other British leader has had such tremendous influence on world events! She was stubborn, charismatic, principled and street smart, all while retaining her femininity.
She along with Gorbachev and Reagan dismantled the Soviet Union and the Warsaw Pact countries and helped to end the Cold war without bloodshed. She took a bold gamble in responding to Gorbachev's initiatives and even traveled to Moscow for talks with the Soviet leadership.
She firmly believed in honest private enterprise, liberty, democracy, equal opportunity and pragmatic economic policies. A strong supporter of the Commonwealth and of Britain's historic role in making the Commonwealth an effective international body for human unity and progress.
She was a great friend of the Indian people and was instrumental in permitting immigration from India and even allotted land in Southhall for Indians to live and work there.
After the Iron lady England lost its sovereignty!

women and prosperity

In India  a woman is considered as an incarnation of Laxmi,Goddess of wealth! Ancient India, which was rich and prosperous had a high regard for the feminine, while modern India, sunk in abysmal poverty has one of the highest incidence of gender-violence and exploitation!
If the world is to be put back on a high growth trajectory the present notions about women will have to change drastically. All over the world business is changing its  strategy to attract women customers. Micro-credit is bringing prosperity at the grassroots in Bangladesh because of active support from women. In India women are setting up cooperatives in farming, handicrafts, dairy farming, poultry, bamboo furniture, hand looms and small savings. All this without government patronage.
As economic power of women increases they will be able to influence decision making also. A woman is naturally more prudent and far-sighted than men. As more women enter politics there will be a drastic reduction in wasteful defense expenditure and increase in welfare expenditure as is the case in Scandinavia!
Please remember there cannot be sustainable affluence without harmony and peace!

women and childbirth

Childbirth is a spiritual experience! The Mother. The moment of childbirth is the supreme moment of a woman's life. The agony of delivery is rewarded by the ecstasy of hearing the child's cry! Nine months of extreme watchfulness is followed by fulfillment.
It is the state of mind of a woman at the time of conception which sets the seal on the future development of the child. If the woman can imagine of the highest ideal she is capable of,the child so conceived will be a reflection of that ideal!
In ancient cultures care was taken that a pregnant woman is surrounded with pleasant pictures, given nutritious foods, encouraged to listen to music, read good books and saved from awkward movements so that the child can imbibe good influences. There are reported incidents in Africa and India where a woman gave birth while working in the fields and carried on after the delivery without any problem! One of the reasons for frequent caeserian sections these days is the lack of inadequate exercise during pregnancy.
Till the age of 2 there is an invisible connection between the mother and child and the mother can perceive every single need of the child!
The whole universe is nothing but mother and child!
