sincerity

'To thine own self be true, and it must follow as the night the day, thou canst never be false to any man' King Lear.Shakespeare
To be sincere requires tremendous courage and determination'.One has to devote every moment thinking of the aim,one has decided to pursue. There will be setbacks as in any endeavour but one has to remain firm and never give up.To be sincere, one has to be absolutely open and forthright and never conceal anything from anyone. In the present times, sincerity is uncommon and not considered important and only achieving fame and material success are the present day deities.Idealists and dreamers are shunned and ridiculed by people.People must realize that without ideals, there can be no progress and civilization will perish.'Where the idealist abounds, the practical person also can achieve significant goals'.
'The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams'Eleanor Roosevelt. One has to be prepard to take infinite pains to achieve the purpose one has chosen.Even though circumstances may appear adverse and unfavourable,it is important to keep moving in the right direction.
'To speak the truth in times of universal deceit is a revolutionary act'.George Orwell.'Satyam,Shivam,Sundaram' have been the polestars of the Indian culture and have distinguished India from other countries.Since ancient times, the Indian people gave more importance to values, education, culture and aesthetics rather than to being wealthy and sussesful.Vishwamitra,Vashisht,Gargi,Maitreyi,Buddha,Mahavir,Gurunanak,Kabir,Thiruvallar, meerabai,Dnyaneshwar and Tukaram are still household names in India.
If India is to take its rightful place in the world,it has to revive the ancient spirit because Indian culture has the solutions to the problems perplexing humanity today.

happy deepavali

The Ramayana has had a tremendous influence on the Indian psyche for the past 5000 years.Attributed to Valmiki,a rishi,it symbolises the triumph of good over evil.
Rama is supposed to be an incarnation of lord Vishnu and is born to kill the demon king Ravana.
Dashratha, the ruler of Ayodhya has three wives,Kaushalya,Kaikeyi and Sumitra. He is a righteous, benevolent and kind ruler who is deeply respected by his subjects. Rama is the eldest son and child of Kaushalya,Bharata is the son of Kaikeyi and Laxman and Shatrughna are the children of Sumitra. Dashratha sends all his children to Rishi Vishwamitra where they receive instructions in warfare and statecraft.
Rama then wins the hand of Sita, the daughter of Janaka, king of Mithila,by winning an archery contest defeating all the rivals.
Being the eldest son,he is the natural heir to the throne of Ayodhya but destiny intervenes and he is forced to go into exile with Sita and Laxman. In the forest Sita is kidnapped by Ravana and taken to Lanka.Rama and Laxman then organise an army of monkeys and bears to rescue Sita. Hanuman, the monkey king,is totally loyal to Rama and even burns down Lanka when he is asked by Rama to find out the well-being of Sita.
Ravana's brother Vibhishan joins hands with Rama and in the ensuing battle Ravana is killed by Rama and both Rama and Sita return to Ayodhya with Rama being proclaimed king.
Diwali, the festival of lights is celebrated all over India to commemorate the return of Rama to Ayodhya. It is celebrated by all Indians irrespective of faith, region or language.

mahakali

It was when Shivaji offered his head to Bhawani that she appeared before him and commanded him to liberate his motherland from foreign domination. Ramakrishna always invoked Kali and acted according to her directions.
She is Durga astride a lioness who slays the Asuras with her million arms. She never shirks from battle and is mercilless to all that opposes the Divine. The impulses that are swift, straight and forthright are the motions of Mahakali. With her blessings the work of centuries can be done in a day.Her love cleanses and purifies and instills heroism where there is weakness and cowardice.
Let us be worthy of her grace!

qurratulain hyder

“History is another name for humanity’s inability to learn its lesson,” Qurratulain Hyder
“My concern for civilization values about which I continue writing may sound naive, wooly-headed and simplistic. But then, perhaps, I am like that little bird which foolishly puts up its claws, hoping that it will stop the sky from falling,” Qurratulain Hyder
Even three years after her death, one still feels the freshness and strength of different characters that she created. As a prolific writer, she started writing at a very young age. She is considered one of the most celebrated writers of Urdu fiction. The death of Qurratulain Hyder marks the end of a period of the optimum writing in Urdu. Qurratulain Hyder, a.k.a Ainee Apa, truly dominated the world of Urdu literature for over six decades.
Her piece Mere Bhi Sanam Khaney (My Temples, Too) is the story of family embedded in the traditions of the Indo-Muslim culture as it struggled to narrate the tragic tale of the birth of two new nations. The set of rich charecaters like Rakhshanda, Karan, Picho, Christabil and Gunni represent a group of people who are brave, protagonists and enthusiastic for creating a new world. The story also portrays deep cultural roots of Lucknow, its faded culture and how old values replaced the new ones after partition. It also reflects the end of a feudal system that came with the Independence.
Her work Kar-e-Jahan Daraz Hay is an excellent family chronicle and autobiographical work. The most genius literary work is Aag ka Darya (River of Fire) that deals with the dilemma of human condition in the Indo-Pakistani background until the formation of a new country. Through a wonderful characterization that depicts the sociology, history and culture that rooted over centuries in India. The tour de force beautifully extends over centuries and explains a vast span of times and historical epochs till post-Independence era in India and Pakistan.
Her work Aglay Janam Mohey Bitia na Kejio is a fine and delicate piece on social class, gender exploitation and injustice. The poor girls Qamran and Shamsan struggle a lot to get themselves adjusted in a cruel and un-accepting male-dominated society. Sita Haran is about a dirge to the sagacity of individual and political perfidy subject to human beings. It is about a modern and well-educated Sindhi Hindu migrant woman, Sita Mirchandani, who starts living with her lover Irfan after being separated from her Muslim husband, and remains highly nostalgic about her past. She struggles against a battle of exile that is more internal in nature. It is a story of betrayal at personal as well as political level.
Housing Society explores the post independence cultural and economic classes. Jamshed, who is a poor man’s son, comes to Karachi and becomes a powerful and influential business entrepreneur, while the family of Chhoti Bitia (Salma) and Surayya start struggling to make their survival in the new political and economic system. One finds a touch of little scorn in this masterpiece novella.
Her piece Pat Jhar ki Awaz (The Sound of Falling Leaves) has a classical touch to it. And it has been translated into Bengali, Punjabi, Oriya, Tamil, Kanada and Dogri languages. It un-folds a series of personal, economic, historical and political betrayals and also tend to explore the calamitous events that have disclosed their lives. Her travelogue Koh-i-Damavand covers the reminiscences of Iran, Russia and Kashmir. Chandni Begum reflects the altering realities of modern life and people who are main victims of this traumatic cycle. The novellas Dilruba and Chai ke Bagh are based on traumatic social status of women. The ordeal felt by Gulnaar Bai and Kashani sisters is well enough to depict the misery of women in a society.
The Street Singers of Lucknow and Other Stories combine fact, fantasy and pinch of satirical humor along with rococo imitation and brusque post-modernism. Picture gallery is a collection of different essays, reports and documentaries on topical issues.
Besides these, her works include Sitaron Sey Aagey, Sheeshay ke Ghar, Safina-e-gham-e-Dil, Gardish-e-Rang-e-Chaman, Roshni ki Raftaar, Sitambar Ka Chaand, Fasle-gul-aai ya Ajal Aayi and Jila Watan.
The novel Aakhir-e-Shab ke Hamsafar is set in Bengal and runs alongside imperative historic moments and epochs like the ascending in nationalistic feelings, the rise of revolutionary movements in Bengal, and the demand for Bangladesh.
She received the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1967, Soviet Land Nehru Award in 1969, and Ghalib Award in 1985. She also received Jnanpith Award in 1989 for her novel Aakhir-e-Shab ke Hamsafar. She was awarded Padma Shri and was conferred the Padma Bhushan in 2005 by the Government of India, for her role to Urdu Literature and education.
She left us on August 21, 2007 after a prolonged illness.

stree shakti-creative destruction

I am stronger than death and greater than my fate;
My love shall outlast the world, doom falls from me
Helpless against my immortality.
Fate's law may change, but not my spirit's will." Savitri

For too long have the women remained spectators on the world scene. The time has now come for them to show their dynamic side. If she can give birth she can also destroy.
The world's history has been a story of the deeds of men.People don't realize that the creatrix principle is the source of this earth.'The hand that rocks the cradle rules the world' Napoleon.Jesus,Mohammed,Sri Krishna,Shiva or any other Messiah are no match for The Mother. It is she who has been the inspiration for their achievements.Men have only used them for their personal benefit and aggrandisement.
There is now a world wide conspiracy to destroy the feminine principle from the earth.Test tube babies, contraceptives, cosmetics, scientology, modern architecture, language and deadly chemicals are some of the devices being used to create a synthetic woman.
Unless the women take matters into their own hands, the world will soon become a horror story.

women and human unity

Never doubt that a group of thoughtful committed people can change the world.Indeed that is the only thing that ever has. Margaret Mead
All over the world women are leading social movements directed at challenging the status quo.Nature has endowed women with sensitivity, empathy, love, kindness and compassion-qualities which the world desperately needs today.
The increase in incidents of violence against women is a sign of desperation and frustration in men who are now feeling threatened. It is important that women all over the world unitedly take on the challenges posed by the vested interests. They must realize that their safety and well being depends on the social conditions around them and only a cooperative and coordinated approach can ensure a better world.
Environmental degradation,a biased media, poverty, malnourishment in women and children, poor public health care, universal education and sexual harassment at work place are the major issues affecting the human race.Unless these issues are quickly resolved, the fate of the human civilization could be in jeapordy.
The Internet is enabling people with unprecedented means of communication, education and bringing about mutual understanding.People are now gradually transcending boundaries of race, geography, language, religion and culture and are moving towards a "One world one humanity" paradigm.
Women must overcome their sense of insecurity and inferiority and use their organizational skills to improve the social conditions around them. There are enough right-minded people in the world to support all such movements.
